My Chinese New Year Snack Shop

You might have seen a dozen of your friends saying "Happy Chinese New Year" in a variety of ways. But for me, celebrating Chinese New Year has always brought on a need to stop in an visit this small, local business in Chinatown to appease my cravings!

Say hello to SING CHEONG YUAN BAKERY at 1027 Maunkea St. Honolulu, Hi 96817.

When you first walk in, you are greeted by this showcase of tasty treasures! "What do I get first?", "how many should I buy?", "which ones taste good?". First and foremost, this little spot on Maunakea street is normally quite busy as people know where to go to get their delicious baked goods and snacks, so be sure you pull a number upon first arriving!

Manapua, bao, custard cakes, pork hash, jin dui, moon cakes, mochi... OH MY! The list goes on an on. Each time I return, there's always something that I've never seen but NEED to try! Eventually, you discover what your favorite treats are and return with a plan of attack!

(Jung - Pork, Egg Yolk, Mochi Rice)

(Jin Dui - Dim Sum Fried Sesame Balls made of rice flour and typically filled with red bean paste)

(Mooncakes - Fried pastry filled with red bean or lotus seed paste)

(Black Sugar Wedding Cake)

(Gao - Glutinous rice flour and Chinese brown sugar)

After walking through Maunakea street, I popped into the CHINATOWN CULTURAL PLAZA. This place is certainly ready to celebrate the CHINESE NEW YEAR!
